MTD-logo-300x127MTD Products — the parent company of Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt Products, Columbia, Yard Machines, Remington, Arnold and other brands — purchased two companies: Core Outdoor Power and Precise Path Robotics.

Acquiring Core gives MTD a greater stake in the electronic power equipment industry. Core’s niche is powering outdoor landscape equipment with gasless motor technology.

Precise Path, on the other hand, designed a commercial autonomous greens mower, the RG3, for putting greens. The RG3 travels in straight lines and along curved perimeters without the need of an operator to guide it.  [Check out our 2011 coverage of Precise Path’s RG3.]

“MTD is committed to the professional market,” CEO Rob Moll says. “Robotic and gasless technologies have the power to transform the world of outdoor power equipment and we look forward to bringing the benefit of these new innovations to our consumer and trade customers.”

MTD President and COO Jean Hlay added: “MTD has a history of bringing game-changing innovation to the market. These two acquisitions serve to reinforce our core principles and accelerate the pace with which we bring our vision of the future to life.”
