UMass to offer 9-week virtual turf management program in 2023

The University of Massachusetts (UMass) Winter School for Turf Managers is an intensive 110-plus hour certificate program designed to convey concepts essential to maintaining high quality turf, with emphasis on environmental stewardship, input reduction and fiscal responsibility.

This comprehensive, dynamic short course is especially suited for experienced professionals associated with the management of fine lawns and landscapes, golf courses, sports fields, parks, municipal, institutional and private grounds, or sales and support to these industry segments.

Courses are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons over 9 weeks, from Jan. 3, 2023 through March 2, 2023.

Each course consists of a topic module led by an individual instructor. Topics include:

  • Fundamentals of turf management
  • Advanced topics in turf
  • Soil science and management
  • Turf pathology
  • Turf entomology
  • Weed management
  • Irrigation and equipment management
  • Arboriculture

Application period for the course begins Sept. 1, 2022.
