Golf course superintendents have a valuable resource when it comes to fighting annual bluegrass weevils: Weevil Trak 2013, now from Syngenta. The key to a successful annual bluegrass weevil control program is proper decision-making on the timing of treatments early in the season. WeevilTrak alerts registered users on the optimum time to control weevils. Syngenta is working with 39 different superintendents and seven independent university researchers, including treatment recommendations from its Weevil Trak managing consultant, Dr. Daniel Peck. Weevil Trak recommendations make use of three key elements: degree day monitoring, insect monitoring, and phenological plant indicators. The Weevil Trak database contains multiple years of degree day information that has been thoroughly reviewed, with an aim toward refining the times at which the various treatments of the Syngenta 2013 ABM Optimum Control Strategy should be applied. The website also includes links to educational webinars and Syngenta product programs.
