Sweetgrass Golf Club, located in Harris, Mich., is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Paul Albanese of Plymouth, Michigan-based Albanese & Lutzke architectural firm, designed the 18-hole championship golf course. Playing from approximately 5,000 to 7,300 yards, the course features multiple teeing areas to accommodate every player’s unique skill level. The course was labeled as one of the Top Ten Best New Courses by Golf Digest.

The golf course was designed for The Island Resort & Casino and the Hannahville Potawatomi Indian Tribe with the goal of subtly and respectfully honoring Potawatomi beliefs. Holes take the names of traditional Potawatomi clans, villages, allies, medicines and symbols. In fact, Sweetgrass Golf Club is named for a sacred plant used in Indian peace and healing rituals. The rich, aromatic herb is found all along the course.

Sweetgrass annually hosts a Symetra Tour “Road to the LPGA” event – the Island Resort Championship – and has done so since 2011. The course is known for its collection of greens (Redan, Biarritz, Island and shared), highlighted by a signature island green on its 15th hole.
