Quali-Pro presents new product roundup at GIS
Quali-Pro, a division of Pasadena, Texas-based Control Solutions Inc. (CSI), held its “3rd Annual Distributor Breakfast Breakdown” on Feb. 26 at the Golf Industry Show (GIS) in San Antonio.
Rick Grant, CSI business director — turf & ornamental markets, kicked off the confab by introducing to distributors Matt Shipp, CSI’s new VP of marketing. Shipp holds a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and a master’s degree in weed science. Shipp has worked in research, product development, technical service, sales, marketing and operations management for Monsanto, Evonik Goldschmidt, Wilbur-Ellis Corp. and Lamberti USA. Responsible for overseeing CSI’s marketing, product development and regulatory groups, Shipp reports directly to CSI President Mark Boyd.
Grant also introduced Jim Davis, Quali-Pro’s new southwest area manager, and welcomed Amir Ellenbogen, ADAMA’s head of business and marketing — environmental science, to the Lone Star State.
“Continuous investments in proven people and products is what enables us to roll out so many effective, economical turf care solutions every year,” Boyd says.
Grant added that CSI recently invested $5.5 million to construct and equip a 120,000-sq.-ft. facility for finished-goods storage at its 14-acre Pasadena campus. The expansion allowed CSI to centralize warehousing and distribution of its Quali-Pro turf care product line, acquired in 2011.
At the meeting, Grant and Jerry Corbett, Quali-Pro technical services manager, covered, in rapid-fire fashion, the company’s latest turf care solutions:
-
-
- ENCLAVE — Featuring “Quad-Control Technology” — a combination of four active ingredients (chlorothalonil; iprodione; thiophanate methyl; and tebuconazole) — this patent-pending fungicide is showing better efficacy than tank mixing in university studies. ENCLAVE treats dollarspot, brown patch, anthracnose, snow mold (pink and gray) and ornamental diseases. ENCLAVE case packs comprise two 2.5-gallon bottles.
- Strobe 50WG and Strobe 2L — These two new azoxystrobin-based fungicides prevent and cure more than 27 turf and 30 ornamental diseases. Strobe 50WG is a water-dispersible granule available in 1- and 6-pound tip-and-measure bottles. A liquid formulation in pints and 1-gallon tip-and-measure bottles, Strobe 2L is approved by the U.S. EPA and currently undergoing state registrations.
- 2DQ — This new herbicide combines three AIs (2,4-D; dicamba; and quinclorac) to provide control of annual and perennial broadleaf weeds in warm- and cool-season turfgrasses.

- MSM 25OD — This new metsulfuron methyl-based, low-odor, liquid, post-emergent herbicide offers control of bahiagrass and broadleaf weeds such as clovers, dandelion, henbit, dollarweed and plantains, in warm-season turfgrass. Case packs comprise six 4.5-oounce bottles.
- NEGATE 37WG — This dual-powered, low-odor, post-emergent herbicide controls poa, perennial ryegrass and broadleaf weeds in established warm-season turfgrass. Combining rimsulfuron and metsulfuron-methyl, NEGATE 37WG is packaged as a 1.5-ounce bottle for convenient treating of one acre.
- ABBA CS — Featuring abamectin in a capsule suspension formulation, this new insecticide is ideal for mite control on ornamental plants. The product comes in case packs comprising 12 1-pint bottles or four 1-gallon bottles.
- New Rimsulfuron 25 DF packaging option — For proven control of annual bluegrass and perennial ryegrass on warm-season turf, this rimsulfuron-based, dry flowable herbicide is now available in case packs comprising six 5-ounce bottles (as well as case packs comprising four 15-ounce bottles).

Later this year, Quali-Pro expects to launch Strobe-T, a fungicide that will combine azoxystrobin and tebuconazole. In 2016, Quali-Pro plans to launch a turf nematicide based on ADAMA’s Nimitz (AI: fluensulfone). Corbett says the product will provide nematode control as well as enhanced root development and overall plant health.
“Quali-Pro has an unwavering commitment to ‘Innovation you can apply,’ Grant added. “Our parent company, ADAMA, is a $3 billion-a-year global leader with more than 120 registered active ingredients. Whatever your turf care challenges are, Quali-Pro has an effective, economical solution — if not several.”
