Pinehurst Resort & CC will soon formerly announce the promotions of Kevin Robinson to golf course maintenance manager and John Jeffreys to superintendent of Pinehurst No. 2.

Both played instrumental roles in Pinehurst’s successful hosting of this summer’s U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open on Pinehurst No. 2 — where Robinson served as superintendent and Jeffreys as assistant superintendent.

“Kevin and John both have showed tremendous leadership and expertise, particularly in leading Pinehurst through the challenges of hosting two major championships in consecutive weeks,” said Bob Farren, director of golf course & grounds management at Pinehurst Resort. “We’re excited about what they will continue to bring to Pinehurst.”

In his new role, Robinson will be responsible for the daily golf course management of all nine courses at Pinehurst. A native of Morganton, N.C., and an N.C. State graduate (’92, B.S. Agronomy), Robinson has been at Pinehurst since 1992. He first worked as a spray tech on Pinehurst No. 7 before becoming superintendent of Pinehurst Nos. 3 and 5 in 1998 and superintendent of Nos. 6 and 7 in 1999.

He was named superintendent of Pinehurst No. 2 in 2010, and since then effectively guided the course through a major restoration project, two major championships and the recent greens conversion to Ultradwarf Bermudagrass.

Jeffreys, a native of Wendell, N.C., and also a graduate of N.C. State (B.S., Agronomy), has been at Pinehurst since 2000, when he served as an intern on Pinehurst No. 7. He was named assistant superintendent on Pinehurst No. 6 in 2001 and assistant superintendent on Pinehurst No. 2 in 2006.
