Interesting to see you here… What a pleasure to have Robert Hertzing, former superintendent, now a partner with Gradoville and Hertzing Management Group, sneak up on Seth while he was locked in on his laptop in the clubhouse (NERD!) Hertzing introduced him to none other than Adam Nickerson, general manager, Olympia Fields, and Fernando Alandia, CFO, Olympia Fields. Could the BMW Championship be returning to Olympia Fields…? Do people age slower in St. Louis? Seth was happy to catch up with Carlos Arraya, CGCS, CCM, general manager and CEO of Bellerive CC. Arraya was featured on the cover of the PGA Championship preview issue of Golfdom in July of 2018, then he’d later become a columnist for the magazine. Which clearly led to bigger and better things for Arraya, as he has moved up since then. But one question looms from that issue: why does Carlos look exactly the same, while Jones… doesn’t? One for the family photo album: Isn’t this what it’s all about? Steven Story, superintendent at Bellerive, was able to take some time to enjoy the incredible work him and his team accomplished with his family. From left to right are his son Camden, wife Madison, and youngest son Lowen. Great job, Dad! (Photo: Golfdom Staff)
Let’s make this a tradition! Last time we saw these two together, they were standing in front of the Shinnecock Hills clubhouse at the 2026 U.S. Open. This time, Jones and Digital Editor Will Coughlin were enjoying some time on the driving range at BMW Championship. Where will we see them next? (Photo: Golfdom Staff)
A couple of Jayhawks in enemy territory: Jones was rocking (rock chalking?) his KU Jayhawk golf shirt one day while at Bellerive, which led to him meeting Dr. Kevin Most, the on-site doctor for the PGA Tour during the BMW Championship. A fellow Jayhawk and also an Evans Scholar, we learned that Most has a business called Lone Cypress Golf, that turns downed trees into mementos for golfers. Bonus: the work is performed by retired U.S. Army veterans from Fort Bragg. To learn more, watch the Golfdom interview here. (Photo: Golfdom Staff)
Man on the move: He’s based in Georgia but the world is his territory — it was great to see Trent Manning, CTEM, STEC Equipment, at the BMW Championship. From St. Louis he was heading west… Wyoming and Idaho were next. But first, he was planted at Bellerive to help make sure everything in the shop was running as smoothly as possible. Jonesy and Jimmy: Golfdom’s tag team of Seth Jones and Jim Cummins took some time to analyze Tommy Fleetwood’s swing on the driving range. Watch out when these two get together… the conversation bounces from topic to topic quickly, but usually comes back around to golf or music. (Photo: Golfdom Staff)
Fantasy pick, meet reality Let’s just say there might be a friendly golf pool among Golfdom, a few readers and a few sponsors (want in?) But let’s also add that it is cold blooded to not only win the weekend pool, but at the same time get a photo with one of your picks. That’s what Callie Zevecke, PBI-Gordon, did to the pool when she texted this photo of her with Collin Morikawa, who went on to finish in a tie for fourth. (Oh, it gets worse… her first-round pick asked her for directions to the 10th tee before the tournament started. That person? Eventual winner, Wyndham Clark.) (Photo: Golfdom Staff)
