OTF, VGM Club partner to offer assistant superintendents scholarships

The Ohio Turfgrass Foundation (OTF) has once again partnered with VGM Club for the 2016 OTF Conference and Show to offer assistant superintendents in Ohio a scholarship package to attend the conference and show. This year’s event will take place Dec. 5 – 8 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Thanks to the support of VGM Club and their John Deere distributor partners Reynolds Golf & Turf, Shearer Equipment and JW Turf, there will be five scholarships given away to selected nominees.

“We continue to partner with the OTF because we not only want to see individuals better themselves but also because we believe in investing in this industry.” said Keaton Juergens, VGM Club’s director of member development for the Ohio territory. “This is a way to reward those pursuing careers in the turf industry.”

Assistant superintendents can be nominated through Oct. 21 with the winning applicants being announced on Oct. 28. Each scholarship winner will receive a full conference package, two-night hotel accommodations and a $50 gift card to a local restaurant.

Additionally, the recipients will be enrolled in the Assistant Superintendent Advancement Workshop, which will be led by Tim Moraghan of Aspire Golf. This full-day session will provide the participants with tools needed to take the next step as a turfgrass manager and will conclude with mock interviews conducted by club general managers.

“We encourage head superintendents, general managers and club owners to nominate their assistant superintendents for this great opportunity to further develop their knowledge of the industry,” said Juergens. “The process is simple and shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.”

Each year, industry leaders from throughout the Midwest attend the OTF Conference & Show to participate in one of the top education programs in the country. Additionally, attendees are able to learn more about the products and services available to them by interacting with distributors and manufacturers participating in the regions largest turfgrass oriented tradeshow.
