John Deere announced California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) as winner of the 2020 GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl during the Golf Industry Show in Orlando, Fla. Cal Poly Pomona received a traveling trophy, a $4,000 first-place prize and an opportunity to volunteer at a PGA Tour event in 2020.

As a part of the 2020 GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl, the winning team from Cal Poly Pomona competed against 56 student teams representing 31 colleges and universities from across North America. The competition judged teams on overall industry knowledge and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations, demonstrating what superintendents can face on a daily basis. This year a total of $10,000 in cash and prizes was awarded to the top teams in the competition.

“It’s always great to experience the passion for the industry that these students convey during the competition. They are the next generation of superintendents and golf professionals and we are happy to support and uplift them as they pursue futures in the field,” said Manny Gan, global director of golf, John Deere. “The students from Cal Poly Pomona showcased the determination and knowledge needed to succeed within the golf industry. Through this event, we are privileged to see the future in action and are looking forward to where their careers take them.”
