The U.S. regulatory environment is changing as the use of pesticides and popular chemistries continue to be reviewed and re-evaluated by regulators. While focused on environmental and human health and safety, this changing landscapecan be seen as potentially restricting to continue to deliver high-quality turf. Intelligro, a Suncor business, is working to change that perception with CIVITAS TURF DEFENSE, a fungicide and plant protection product.

“Today’s turf managers are resourceful by nature, but face a significant challenge in getting the results they need with ever-changing environmental conditions and a market that is limiting the tools at their disposal,” says Reinie Drygala, global sales manager, Intelligro. “Our hope is that they will see this as an opportunity to improve their IPM programs and take a more proactive approach.”

The introduction of CIVITAS TURF DEFENSE into the golf market six years ago brought to light a new way of looking at turf management that is now more relevant than ever. Not only is it listed with the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production, but it also enlists a plant-focused approach to help do more with less by achieving stronger, healthier turf that is more resistant to abiotic and biotic stresses. This approach has proven to deliver more resilient turf against environmental stresses such as maintaining acceptable turf quality while reducing water inputs by 25 percent, Intelligro says.

“It’s products like CIVITAS TURF DEFENSE that are going to shape the future of the industry,” says Drygala. “That’s why our efforts are dedicated to transforming plant protection for more resourceful growth. We have products on the market today that will help address these needs while we continue to work on new innovations that will meet the needs of tomorrow.”
