GreenSight Agronomics Inc., a provider of drone-based turfgrass management technology, has appointed John Kaminski, Ph.D., to the role of chief agronomy officer. Kaminski, associate professor of turfgrass science at Penn State University, has an extensive background in turfgrass management and the implementation of new technology in the golf course industry.

“GreenSight strives to deliver reliable and actionable information to our customers,” says Joel Pedlikin, GreenSight’s chief operating officer. “By combining Dr. Kaminski’s expertise in identifying and solving agronomic challenges with our drone and imaging technology we can greatly reduce a golf course’s water and chemical usage while improving the quality of their turf.”

After earning his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Maryland, Kaminski started the turf pathology program at the University of Connecticut. In 2009, he returned to his alma mater, Penn State, to continue his research and serve as director of the golf course turfgrass management program.

His research has been integral in the discovery and identification of new turfgrass pests including bentgrass dead spot and, most recently, thatch collapse. Kaminski has earned numerous accolades for his efforts, including the 2005 Musser International Award of Excellence, and was recently given the Tombros Early Career Professorship in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State.

Kaminski still holds his position as associate professor of turfgrass science at Penn State. The university encourages consulting positions, which is how he will work with GreenSight.
