Dormie Club celebrates grand reopening with new facilities and course improvements
Dormie Club celebrated a grand reopening after nearly 18 months of construction. Located in North Carolina, the course originally opened in 2010 and was met by rave reviews, including a No. 3 ranking in Golfweek‘s list of best new courses. The golf course in the Sandhills was designed by the team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and features Bermuda fairways and tees with bent grass greens. The 18-hole course features 110-foot elevation changes, three natural lakes and an aesthetic that draws inspiration from the Scottish Highlands.
The course was acquired by Dormie Network in 2017 and they have been working toward completing finishing touches on the property’s original vision. The most prominent update is Dormie Club’s new 16,000-square-foot clubhouse. Highlighting the update is a contemporary dining room, anchored by a large, two-sided fireplace, which serves memorable views across the 18th green and world-class cuisine for the indoor enjoyment of as many as 150 members and guests. The new Dormie Club centerpiece is fully serviced and also proffers a cozy lounge and a circular wine room.
The enhancements also feature 15 new stay-and-play cottages subtly nestled along the golf course, just a short ride from the clubhouse, which offer three lodging options for a total of 60 beds on site.
In addition, there are numerous enhancements being completed around the club that will further elevate the member experience. These include a stately new entrance gate and a standalone pro shop that will debut soon. Also nearing completion are a 12,000-square-foot practice putting green and an extended, 23,000-square-foot driving range measuring more than 300 yards, with a pair of indoor hitting bays on the back end, along with comfort stations strategically placed on the course, underground golf cart parking and separate buildings for maintenance and housekeeping.
Several course improvements have also been made to the original Coore & Crenshaw layout. The bunkers have been restored using the Better Billy Bunker system, cart paths have been enhanced, winding walking bridges have been constructed, several new tee boxes accessible by walking trails have been added, landscaping has been refreshed and hundreds of trees have been removed to improve views around the property.
Dormie Club’s all-new facilities and refurbished course were recently showcased in a series of exclusive members-only grand reopening events the week of September 20.
“It’s so gratifying to get to the finish line,” said Tony Chapman, Dormie Club’s general manager. “To finally come full circle and fulfill the club’s promise is such an accomplishment, not only for our club but for the network. Completing this flagship property has definitely enhanced the benefits of Dormie Network membership.”
