Course of the Week: KemperSports selected to manage Tidewater GC
KemperSports, a golf, sports, entertainment and hospitality company, added Tidewater Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., to its portfolio.
Local architect Ken Tomlinson designed the course, situated along the Carolina coastline and nestled between the Intercoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove Inlet. The course received “Best New Public Course” in America honors by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine when it opened in 1990.
The 7,044-yard course features Tifeagle bermudagrass greens and fairways. Shaun Donahue serves as golf course superintendent, a role he’s held for 20 years. Donahue also holds the title of Senior Advisor with LINNE Industries.
In 2022, the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association selected the course as South Carolina’s Golf Course of the Year. Recently, the course appeared on Golf Digest’s 2023-2024 “Best in State” rankings and earned seventh on Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play 2023 State-By-State” list and fourth on GolfPass’ 2023 Golfers’ Choice list of best courses in South Carolina.
Nine of Tidewater’s 18 holes play along the water. Designed to coexist with the local flora and fauna, Tidewater provides an experience through the natural Lowcountry landscape while maintaining the ecological integrity of the area.
Earlier this year, KemperSports was also selected to manage Cedar Point Club in Suffolk, Va.
