Capital City Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla., will return to a private club, according to a news release from its golf course operator Integrity Golf Company.

The 18-hole course is managed by David Moyer, superintendent, and was designed by architect A.W. Tillinghast. It is located less than two miles from the Florida State Capitol and Florida State University.

Capital City is currently operated as a semi-private club with Integrity Golf planning to convert the club back to private on March 1, 2016.

In addition to a championship golf course, this historic club also comprises a swimming pool, five tennis courts — three hard and two clay, dining and banquet facilities, a fitness center, fully equipped locker rooms and a golf pro shop.

“It’s a privilege for our company to be associated with Capital City’s membership and this one-of-a-kind property,” says Integrity Golf chief executive officer Gene Garrote, whose private company is ranked among the “Top 25 Management Companies in the World” by Golf Inc. magazine. “We’re excited about the future of this great golf and country club and committed to making Capital City one of Florida’s most desirable golf and leisure destinations.”

Capital City’s roots go back more than 100 years when Tallahassee Country Club was originally organized in 1908 as a small golf course and tennis courts on the grounds of a private estate known as The Grove. Before the end of the 1920s, Capital City grew to nine holes with and a new clubhouse was constructed on the north side of the present 13th hole.

In the mid-to-late 1930s, while under ownership of the City of Tallahassee, Tillinghast was hired to design a championship 18-hole layout. It remained a municipal course until May 1956, when the newly chartered Capital City Country Club, including many of the original Tallahassee Country Club members, assumed control of the club.

Integrity Golf took over Capital City’s club operations in December 2014.
