Briggs & Stratton recalled about 8,500 Snapper rear engine riding mowers to repair faulty welding on the drive axle that can cause loss of brake control. The manufacturer has received two reports of brake failure, but no reports of injuries.

The recall involves the following models and serial number ranges:

  • Model 7800918, with serial numbers 2016447188 – 2016485206;
  • Model 7800920, with serial numbers 2016443919 – 2016568930;
  • Model 7800932, with serial numbers 2016462619 – 2016481454;
  • Model 7800950, with serial numbers 2016611952 – 2016766052;
  • Model 7800951, with serial numbers 2016624456 – 2016765000; and
  • Model 7800954, with serial numbers 2016603229 – 2016775752.

The units were sold nationwide from April 2013 through May 2014 for between $1,300 and $2,000.
