2022 Masters photo parade: A return to form
After missing the Masters these last two years, it was a thrill to be back again at Augusta National Golf Club. Here are a few of the people we saw at the tournament. We’ll have more Friends of Golfdom photos in the next issue.
Golfdom Editor-in-Chief Seth Jones was easy to spot on Tuesday at the Masters with that bright red Jayhawks jacket. With Jones is Jon Maddern, CGCS, Club Corp. Maddern was president of GCSAA in 2003.
The guys did a good job forcing smiles here because this photo was taken just minutes after the horns were sounded to evacuate Augusta National for severe weather. From left to right are Rich Sweeney, the Plant Food Co.; Mike Daugherty, Quali-Pro; Paul Blodorn, Quali-Pro; Craig MacGregor, Golfdom; Joe Kinlin, Bey Lea GC, Toms River, N.J.; and Jake Goodman, Golfdom.
What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done with your uncle? Miles Carlson, superintendent at Grand Pines GC in Montgomery, Texas, went with his Uncle Mike Carlson, CGCS-Retired, to the Masters. Here the two are on No. 18 at Augusta National.
The hour we spent with this crew from Virginia was enlightening… do these guys have their own slang language they sometimes speak? We think so. Does anyone really agree on who the best golfer in the group is? We think not. Sporting the CPG 7-4-7 Swing Thought System hat on the left is Paul Van Buren, The Kanawha Club, Manakin-Sabot, Va.; Jay Wade, Magnolia Green GC, Moseley, Va.; Ryan Dwyer, The Club at Viniterra, New Kent, Va.; Brent Graham, CGCS, Two Rivers CC, Williamsburg, Va.; Jeremy Waddell, Golden Horseshoe GC, Williamsburg, Va. and Chris Roberts, Landscape Supply, Midlothian, Va.
We were leaving Amen Corner when we saw these Friends of Golfdom: Jed Fedor (left), superintendent at the Cliffs at Mountain Park, Asheville, N.C., with the Shands, Trish and Steve. Trish is the membership and communications director at Biltmore Forest CC, Asheville, while Steve is the superintendent at the Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville.
Cam Smith, winner of the 2022 Players Championship, was a popular pick last week at Augusta. He almost paid off, too, finishing in third.
A wayward drive by Dustin Johnson allowed the Masters patrons an up-close look at what the 2020 champ is capable of doing out of the rough with a three-wood.
Tommy Fleetwood takes a long look down No. 18 during his Wednesday practice round.
