2015 PGA Championship volunteers…mount up!
I flew out to Milwaukee on Sunday
so I could be here in time for the all-important introductory meetings… I already attended the “Pro Greens” meeting this afternoon, now let’s see if I can get my rapidly aging body out of bed in time for the full-team introductory meeting! (Meeting is at 4:30 a.m. — I’m staying in downtown Milwaukee, an hour away. Alarm currently set for 3 a.m. Odds I make it? 5:1)
I invite you all to follow our 2015 PGA Championship coverage at Golfdom.com this week, as well as on Twitter (@Golfdom) and Facebook.
It’ll be even more fun than usual because I’m bringing young blood with me — Grant B. Gannon will be making his first appearance at a Major, and I fully expect him to 1) get some amazing scoop, or, 2) get stabbed by Phil Mickelson or 3) accomplish both at the same time. Whichever way, it’s a win-win for me.
So I’ll shut it down for now, but a few quick things I learned today:
- A day-long soaker put about 3/4″ of rain on the course on Friday, so they’re adjusting maintenance for that…
- A Tuesday in November, or the Sunday before the 2015 PGA Championship, Michael Lee and Chris Zugel are the exact same people regardless of major championship timing.
- Senior assistant superintendent Joe Sell will be living on-site in a RV this week. Nice, Joe!
- Both Tiger and Rory played the course today. I even caught a glimpse of El Tigre!
More soon. I might be tweeting from that meeting. I might not. I might be tweeting from the Wisconsin State Fair.
I really don’t know what this week will entail, but one thing I know for sure: I’m excited for it.
