Youth on Course 2021 scholarship awards grant $296K to 20 students

The non-profit organization, Youth on Course has announced its 2021 scholarship awards granting $296,000 to 20 deserving high school graduates. Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2008, 280 Youth on Course members have been awarded financial support totaling $2 million and recipients of the scholarship hold a 93 percent graduation rate.

The class of 2021 will be attending the country’s most prestigious universities including Dartmouth College, University of California – Berkeley and the United States Naval Academy, among others. The average GPA of this year’s winners is 4.39 and six of the recipients will be playing college golf with five others possibly joining their collegiate team.

“Pursuing higher education, much like the game of golf, shouldn’t hinge on the financial burdens it places on young people,” says Michael Lowe, vice president of programs for Youth on Course. “These 20 students are among the brightest in the country and we, along with our scholarship donors, are proud to help them continue to work towards their dreams on and off the golf course.”

The recipients are:

  • Bryson Berry (Lexington, Ky.), Dartmouth College, intended major: government/economics
  • Tyler Bianchi (Carmel, Calif.), University of Colorado – Boulder, intended major: business management
  • Marion Caldwell (Farmington, N.M.), Dartmouth College, intended major: undecided
  • Ryan Choi (Cockeysville, Md.), Carleton College, intended major: economics
  • Jalon Cook (Stockbridge, Ga.), Kennesaw State University, intended major: computer science
  • Keleona Jiminez (Durham, N.C.), Winston-Salem State University, intended major: business administration
  • Viveka Kurup (Redwood Shores, Calif.), Bucknell University, intended major: computer science
  • Faith McKinney (North Las Vegas, Nev.), Chicago State University, intended major: criminal justice 
  • Morgan, Tayelor (Columbia, S.C.), College of Charleston, intended major: biology
  • Yen Nhi Nguyen (Portland, Ore.), Lehigh University, intended major: political science/international relations
  • Noah Nuez (Laveen, Ariz.), United States Naval Academy, intended major: nuclear engineering
  • Leland Pan (Naperville, Ill.), University of Illinois of Urbana Champaign, intended major: political science
  • Naree Philavanh (Lincoln, Neb.), University of Nebraska – Lincoln, intended major: marketing
  • Roman Ramirez (San Antonio, Tex.), Our Lady of the Lake University, intended major: mathematics
  • Jaime Saliba (Berkley, Mich.), St. Mary’s College, Indiana, intended major: criminal justice
  • Monica Solis (Clemmons, N.C.), Gettysburg College, intended major: political science
  • Boring Sutikto (Fremont, Calif.), Santa Clara University, intended major: accounting and information systems
  • Belinda Sutikto (Fremont, Calif.), San Jose State University, intended major: business/economics
  • Adora Wen (Dublin, Calif.), University of California – Berkeley, intended major: mathematics/economics
