UPI recalls Viceroy 70DF fungicide formulation

United Phosphorus Inc. (UPI) is voluntarily recalling all 2013 production batches of Viceroy 70DF turf fungicide formulation.

NovaSource, the manufacturer, found evidence of contamination from the herbicide sulfometuron methyl in the turf fungicide formulation following laboratory investigation and testing.

The recall includes all 2013 production of Viceroy with batch codes that begin with the number six (e.g., 6101701).

On June 8 UPI voluntarily stopped sale of Viceroy following reports of compromised turfgrass after the product was applied to bentgrass/Poa putting greens, collars and approaches.

“We empathize with the distributors and users of Viceroy that are affected by this situation. We understand and regret the difficulties that have been caused,” says Mark DelSantro, UPI’s national business manager, specialty products. “In conjunction with TKI, we are working diligently to resolve the situation and are investigating turf management options for mitigating turf injury.”

UPI asks that Viceroy 70DF users take the following steps immediately:

  • Do not use or apply Viceroy 70DF with batch numbers starting with the number six (e.g., 6101701).
  • Return all products with batch codes beginning with the number six to the point of sale or to the product distributors for full credit, including reimbursement of costs associated with the return.

Information and updates will be shared on a dedicated website: viceroyturfinfo.com.
