Shearer Equipment enjoying U.S. Open exposure

By |  June 17, 2016 0 Comments

The U.S. Open is an opportunity for golfers professional and amateur to make a name for themselves. At the 2016 U.S. Open the Ohio-based company Shearer Equipment is trying to do the same thing.

Shearer Equipment is the distributor providing the John Deere equipment for the 2016 U.S. Open.

“We took over the John Deere equipment contract in 2013,” says Jim Keller, golf operations manager at Shearer. “We have a strong presence in northeast and central Ohio but we’re still building our golf business in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.”

The distributor has seven locations in northeast and central Ohio. The one opened most recently is a 27,000-square-foot facility that was an old car dealership in Burbank, Ohio. Keller says Shearer Equipment is very proud of the new facility and they feel like it’s a place he can invite clients to come visit.

The Burbank office will not be the newest Shearer facility for long because they are looking for locations to expand into Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Although Shearer is relatively new to the golf business, Keller and Kent Orban, Golf Sales Professional for the greater Pittsburgh area and northern West Virginia, have long been a part of the industry.

Before Orban, who serves as Oakmont Superintendent’s John Zimmers sales rep, worked in sales he was a superintendent and Keller has worked on a golf course multiple times in his life.

More than anything Keller and Orban see this as an opportunity to get the company’s name out, and if anyone is wondering who provided the John Deere equipment they only need to look at the sticker on its body.

“I know how big it is for us, the exposure. Another thing is volunteers at the (U.S.) Open are superintendents and they are going to be operating a lot of our equipment,” Keller says. “The people that we want in the seats of our equipment are going to be in the seats of our equipment.”
