Textron E-Z-GO launches third-generation Samsung SDI lithium battery in ELiTE vehicles

Textron E-Z-GO, a Textron Inc. unveiled the next generation of Samsung SDI lithium battery technology in select model-year 2027 E-Z-GO ELiTE lithium vehicles.

This new generation of Samsung SDI technology, the third since E-Z-GO introduced its ELiTE lithium vehicles in 2017, combines power, performance and reliability with advanced safety features to provide additional peace of mind.

This third-generation Samsung SDI battery incorporates multiple automotive-grade safety features, including:

• An enhanced battery management system, which periodically monitors the battery’s health, even when the vehicle is turned off and unplugged, to ensure that all systems are working properly.
• Controlled energy discharge, which automatically discharges energy from the battery if an abnormal fault condition is detected, reducing the risks posed by a damaged or malfunctioning battery.
• An integrated, heat-activated suppression system, which automatically releases fire suppressant inside the battery when the system is exposed to extreme heat.
• Sensors that detect contaminants in the battery housing and, if detected, deliver a vehicle fault preventing vehicle use until the condition is addressed.
• Lithium cell potting, which surrounds the battery’s lithium cells with a protective compound to form a thermal barrier and prevent a damaged cell from impacting neighboring cells.
• A redesigned battery cover and tray, which better shield the battery from external damage or contamination.

Featuring a light, compact footprint, model-year 2027 E-Z-GO RXV units with the third-generation battery are more than 75 pounds lighter than competing fleet golf cars, minimizing turf compaction on golf courses and maintaining a nimble, stable, responsive and fun ride for drivers and passengers, according to the company.

Like prior generations of Samsung SDI battery technology in E-Z-GO ELiTE vehicles, the battery requires no maintenance and is highly efficient, reducing energy usage and operating costs compared to traditional lead-acid batteries.

The third-generation Samsung SDI battery is now available in model-year 2027 E-Z-GO RXV, Freedom RXV and Liberty vehicles.
