Superintendents Association awards scholarships

The Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association (GCSA) has awarded the 2013 Georgia GCSA Legacy Scholarship to nine students. The scholarship, which offers educational aid to children and grandchildren of Georgia GCSA members, is funded by the Georgia GCSA. This year’s awards total $5,250.

The scholarship program is open to students with a parent or grandparent who is a current member of Georgia GCSA and who has been in the organization for five or more consecutive years and meets one of its membership classifications.

Students had to meet selection criteria that included academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, leadership and outside employment. They also were required to submit two essays and had to be enrolled full-time at an accredited institution for the next academic year.

Scholarship recipients include:

  • Addison Esoda, daughter of Mark Esoda, CGCS, Atlanta Country Club, Marietta (top award recipient);
  • Amanda Martin, daughter of Mike Martin, Hampton Golf Village, Cumming;
  • Jeania Alford, daughter of Jerry Matthews, CGCS, Brookfield Country Club, Roswell;
  • Ann Drinkard, daughter of James Drinkard, Athens Country Club, Athens;
  • Morgan Kepple, daughter of Ralph Kepple, CGCS, East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta;
  • Sydney Marshall, daughter of Kyle Marshall, Capital City Club, Woodstock;
  • Hallie Murray, granddaughter of Buzz Howell;
  • Lindsey Womac, granddaughter of Bill Womac, CGCS; and
  • Ariel Edwards, daughter of Jason Edwards, E&E Golf Management, Anniston, AL.
