Stevens Water names business development, agronomy vp

Stevens Water Monitoring Systems has named Carmen Magro vice president of Business Development and Agronomy.

“We are thrilled to have Carmen as part of our team,” said Scott South, president of Stevens Water. “He has excelled at providing sound advice in irrigation, soil, nutritional, plant performance and yield improvement applications. His experience with several technology companies to implement self designed models for stress prediction, irrigation analysis/control, and overall plant health is of great value.”

Most recently, Magro founded and lead an international consulting firm called Agronomy Management Solutions, which provides consultation services for agriculture, golf, sports turf, residential and environmental land use applications.

“In addition to his extensive agronomy expertise and education, Carmen also holds an MBA, making him a well-rounded individual who will add great value to our current and future customers,” South added. “Carmen’s technical expertise combined with his business leadership will help Stevens Water further advance and grow our expertise in providing sensors and data acquisition instrumentation for monitoring and managing those environmental conditions that impact the health and welfare of all living things.”

Previously, Magro served as vice president of Agronomy with sensor company UgMO Technologies. Before that, he was lead agronomist and director of education at Floratine Products Group, where he where he trained and supported an international sales force in fundamental agronomy applications for product positioning.

In addition, Magro directed the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program and Turfgrass Research Facilities at Penn State University, where he also served as the school’s turfgrass media relations expert. It was during this job that he initiated the use of new sensor technology in developing growing degree models and other stress models for predicting and managing turfgrass pests and earned patents in his unique work.

Formerly a golf course superintendent, Magro has maintained his certification status with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America through continued dedication to the golf and sports turf markets.

“Stevens represents the finest technology available for monitoring and measuring conditions above and below the ground,” Magro said. “I have dedicated my career to applying technology in the most practical way to allow for making more informed decisions anywhere that agronomy presents a challenge. Further, I have never lost sight of the fundamental hands on approach to addressing those challenges.”

He continued, “Stevens offers a solution to nearly every agronomy challenge, and I plan to introduce the world to those solutions. I am very proud and honored to be able to work for such an outstanding company and leader in monitoring technology. It seems everything I have done in my career has led me to this position.”
