Smithco’s new Star Command 5200 is a large dedicated self-contained turf sprayer, with a holding capacity of 520 gallons.

The 520-gallon Star Command is capable of spraying 15 acres at 38 gallons per acre (.88 gpm) and 12 acres at 44 gallons per acre (1 gpm).

Smithco says the Star Command will require only one return to the filling facility and will cut the tender time by 75 percent at the 1 gpm rate.

The sprayer includes TeeJet features like a pulse width modulation (PWM) system, which allows users to spray at speeds from 2 to 10 mph without changing droplet size. It also includes an advanced GPS system. Smithco and TeeJet offers a wide range of GNSS satellite global correction signals.

The sprayer includes a DynaJet nozzle control system, with PWM, that allows users to choose the ideal drop size based on wind, speed and height of cut, without worrying about drift and those settings staying constant through a 5-fold speed range.

Solenoid-operated tip controls at each nozzle of the sprayer pulse 20 times per second controlling the on portion of the pulse. Each nozzle location is fitted with two tips to further add flow as speed increases. Users can maintain a constant droplet size while changing speed or adjusting to field conditions.

Also included is the Aeros 9040 field computer that offers precision guidance, optional autosteering, application rate control, mapping, variable rate application, automatic boom section control and even optional wireless data transfer.

The Star Command 5200 will be at the Smithco and TeeJet booths at the GIS, in Orlando, Fla., Jan 29-30 in booth #5731.
