Wednesday morning we got a chance to talk to Adam Scott, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk and Zach Johnson as they came off the course. After Tuesday’s rain storms we wanted to see if the course was playing any different.

As is tradition, these are one-on-one interviews conducted right on the course.

Q: With all the rain we got on Tuesday, how do you think the course played today?

Adam: It was very soft. Hopefully that’s all the rain we get for the week because there is a lot of water laying around the course.

Dustin: I think the course is in good shape. It’s soft, obviously, after all the rain we got yesterday but it’s in good shape.

Jim: It’s soft, it’s soft. They got out there and got some mowers on it, the grass is definitely a little shorter than what we saw on Monday, but with the rain and everything, the golf course is playing very soft, very long. You’re gonna see some good scoring if that doesn’t change.

Zach: It’s good, yeah—it’s a good, classic Midwest golf course, the way I see it. The zoysia fairways they have up here. The greens are obviously suffering just because of the heat this summer/early spring, but it’s not going to deter the Championship at all. All in all, I wish it was a little drier. We all do.

Q: How do you feel the greens have held up in these conditions?

Adam: The greens held up and are rolling well. They were nice this morning but once you put 156 guys and caddies through the afternoon they’re going to be a little bit beaten up. But that’s normal at these events after a full field, so I think you have to take advantage of your morning tee time.

Dustin: I think the greens are fine and roll well. I mean obviously I played in the morning so it all just depends. They’re probably going to get a little [rough] with all the traffic on them, but it’s what you expect. As long as you hit your clubs, it won’t matter.

Q: What do you think of the Meyer zoysiagrass fairways here at Bellerive?

Adam: Zoysiagrass is really nice to play off. The ball skips off really well so it’s a big advantage to hit the fairway. You’re going to see a lot of good iron shots because the ball is hitting well and the greens are soft.

Dustin: L.A. has the same fairways so I’ve played off them before. The ball tees off [really well with the zoysiagrass].
