Mr. White is ready to cook: Bellerive Director of Agronomy Nick White (left), with Golfdom’s Seth Jones, wasn’t disheartened by the two-plus inches of rain the course received on Sunday night… and the forecast for more rain on Tuesday night… after all, when people ask him, “Why do you have 110 people here?” …You don’t need them until you need them. And this week, they need them. (Photo: Golfdom Staff)

A stroll up No. 18: The Golfdom team caught up with the PBI-Gordon team at Bellerive and followed Sam Burns around the back nine. From left to right are Callie Zevecke, Seth Jones, Jared Hoyle, Ph.D., Jim Cummins and Will Coughlin.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

Live on Golf Channel: White was live on Golf Channel this afternoon, discussing the course and the big storm that rolled through the course Sunday night. It was one among many interviews the superintendent was asked for today.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

Jonesy and JB: It wasn’t that long ago — or was it? — when Seth was hanging out with Jared Brewster during the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive. Brewster was an assistant at Bellerive back then, now he’s the superintendent at Rolling Hills CC in Newburgh, Ind. JB visited Golfdom’s 19th Hole in July 2018… perhaps the one and only time a then-assistant was profiled on the page.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

Yes, Scheff! World Golf Ranking No. 1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, fresh off his win at the the FedEx St. Jude Championship, played the back nine at Bellerive Tuesday afternoon. His three wood on No. 12 was perfectly striped right down the middle.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

A big thank you: Nick White addressed the crew before Tuesday night maintenance. His sage advice? The people walk mowing greens should probably have another taco, because they would burn those calories tonight. White thanked everyone, from the longtime employees to the new caterer who delivered the tacos.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

Taco Tuesday sponsors: Thanks to the guys from The Toro Co. for picking up the dinner tab for the crew on Tuesday night. Eric Bickel, MTI Distributing (center), spoke to the group about how turfRad is helping the course save water. From left to right are Jones; Guy Oyler, Toro; Bickel; Randy Robinson, GCSAA; and Jim Cummins, Golfdom.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

2019 U.S. Open champ, 2022 U.S. Open champ: These two past winners of the U.S. Open — Golfdom favorite Gary Woodland (left) and Matt Fitzpatrick — were both rolling the rock on Tuesday afternoon. If either of them putt like that this weekend, watch out…(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

Kansas City connection: Blame it on Jones for not visiting his local Kansas City golf courses often enough that he has to connect with Spencer Roberts, CGCS, Shadow Glen GC, in St. Louis and not in his own backyard. Roberts, a mentor to White, was on hand at the BMW to lend his expertise to the staff in any way he could help.(Photo: Golfdom Staff)

Let the Big Dog eat… but not over there! Rory Mcllroy rips a drive on No. 15 tee. McIlroy was on the range hitting woods with a driver cover tucked under his arm today… and after this drive (which found the right rough) he mimicked the motion again. That’s what practice rounds are for, right?(Photo: Golfdom Staff)
