Penn State Extension to host Landscaping Field Day on Aug. 8

An upcoming Penn State Extension workshop will offer hands-on learning experiences for green industry professionals including golf course superintendents and opportunities to earn pesticide recertification credits.

The Penn State Extension’s “Landscaping Field Day” will be held at The Arboretum at Penn State from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 8.

This workshop is designed for arborists, turfgrass and grounds managers, nursery and garden center personnel and the green industry workforce.

Sessions will include:

  • Tours of the Penn State Plant Disease Clinic, the Agricultural Analytical Services Lab and the arboretum.
  • Campus walks focusing on pests, conifers and small flowering trees.
  • Recommendations for the best trees and shrubs to support wildlife.
  • Updates on invasive insects that are building in population throughout Pennsylvania.

Participants can earn core and category pesticide credits from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The registration fee is $70, and the deadline to register is 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 2.
