Transcript

Seth Jones: Hey, everybody. It’s Seth Jones, editor-in-chief of Golfdom Magazine. Today I’m being joined by Owen Coulson. He has started a new business called Grassmentor. Hey, Owen, how’s it going?

Owen Coulson: Great. How are you doing, Seth?

SJ: Doing good. It’s good to see you. Tell me first, what is a Grassmentor?

OC: Grassmentor is here to be that middle man, that mediator that is going to help golf courses and even athletic fields and others, just to do consulting and all that. But also, you know, be be helpful to just communicate with those different areas of the clubs and different golf courses and stuff like that.

SJ: Okay, now where are you based and how far and wide do you expect to travel?

OC: I’m in Birmingham, Ala., in the Southeast. So very, very normal. Jump in the vehicle and drive around the South. I was in Atlanta last week, and South Mississippi, Tennessee, all that, but around the country is kind of my normal thing. But I’ve been in Japan. I’ve been right down into Mexico a little bit. So traveling, I actually love it and there’s really not a boundary for me. So I’ll go anywhere.

SJ: What are some of the questions that superintendents will approach you with? Anything ever surprise you, or is it typically that? Is it pretty typical agronomic stuff they want to kind of talk about?

OC: That’s kind of the funny thing for me. So agronomic, most superintendents are smart, intelligent with their agronomics. And when I ride around with superintendents, even those chefs, general managers, blah, blah. What always happens is, we don’t talk really about that stuff. We talk about all the other things about that, and I talk them through, like, yeah, I remember, you know, I remember talking with my committees, and then, you know, this is what I did. And you know, we talked more through that stuff. Now I can definitely, you know, help and give outside view, you know about agronomic stuff, but it’s more the other stuff that we end up spending most of our time talking about.

SJ: Well, very cool. Well, good luck. I’m excited to hear more about how it’s going and keep us in touch. And for anybody watching grassmentor.com is the website, and this is Owen Coulson. Give him a shout. His numbers on there, and he’s happy to help out any superintendents or anybody in the in the golf industry who’s looking for some for some help. So Owen, good catching up with you.

OC: You too. Thank you so much, Seth, it’s good to talk to you.

SJ: You too. Okay, hey everybody. This is Owen Colson, I’m Seth Jones, thanks for watching us here on Golfdom TV.
