Miller ready to return to LPGA
After four years working as GCSAA’s Field Staff representative for the Great Lakes region, John Miller, CGCS, is heading back to work with the LPGA.
This time around the job remains the same, but the arrangement is a little different. In his previous stint with the LPGA, he was an employee of the GCSAA working under a contract for the LPGA. Now, he will solely be working for the LPGA as its agronomist.
His last day with GCSAA is tomorrow (1/30/15), his first day with the LPGA is Monday (2/2).
“It was a tough decision,” Miller says about leaving GCSAA and the tight-knit Field Staff team. “But I love working with superintendents, and I love working with the LPGA.”
Miller says his phone rang when the LPGA recently decided that a full-time agronomist to travel to the various LPGA Tour stops was again needed. With his new/old position, he will become a global traveler again, though he plans to sit out the next two stops in Thailand and Singapore, and instead start back up in Phoenix at the LPGA Founders Cup.
“When you stop and look at the days gone (from home), it’ll be about the same (as it was during his Field Staff job),” Miller says. “For GCSAA, I traveled three to four days a week. For the LPGA, it’ll be longer trips, but also longer breaks in-between trips.”
GCSAA has posted his old job and is currently seeking candidates. Miller says whoever lands his old job will be quickly learn to love the job and the team.
“It’s a very rewarding job,” Miller says of the Great Lakes Field Staff position. “I’ve got one of the best regions — it’s a large region, about 20 chapters, but the chapters are all strong.”
