Michael Weinert named Northeast consultant at Plant Food Company

Plant Food Company, a third-generation family-owned fertilizer manufacturer, has appointed Michael Weinert as its new Northeast consultant. Weinert brings a unique blend of industry experience and personal connection to the role, having grown up immersed in the golf industry as the son of Tom Weinert, the company’s vice president of sales.
Weinert’s career began at Lehigh Country Club in Pennsylvania where he worked as a caddy before gaining experience in golf operations and turf management at Paramount Country Club. His responsibilities expanded at Glen Oaks and Fresh Meadow, where he managed turf spray programs and developed a passion for plant nutrition and environmental stewardship.
The Northeast is home to some of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, and Weinert said he sees his new role as an opportunity to help preserve these historic venues.
“It’s almost like I get to preserve history and the enjoyment of people getting to play these historical artistic creations,” he said.
Weinert’s background as a competitive golfer — having qualified for the 2019 MET Open and competed in the New York State Open and Florida mini-tours — gives him insight into the needs of both superintendents and players. He emphasizes the importance of understanding how turf conditions impact play, stating that “when a player hits a good shot and it reacts as it should, that’s where the magic is.”
With Weinert’s expertise and player’s perspective, Plant Food Company stated it aims to support the Northeast’s historic golf courses in maintaining both playability and environmental stewardship.
