During his tenure, Wilson ascended from working as a laborer in the trenches to become a well-respected innovator and strategist in the golf course irrigation business. He directs Landscapes Unlimited project managers, estimators and CAD designers, all while overseeing coordination with construction leads and crews, new project bids, major materials and equipment purchases and budget monitoring.

Wilson’s hands-on impact is felt in more than 40 states and a dozen countries with irrigation designers, technicians, related specialists and course superintendents. Ben Crenshaw, Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., are among the course architects whose designs benefit from Wilson’s keen attention to best-fit irrigation systems aligned with course dynamics and crisp installation practices, according to the company.

Furthermore, the industry has relied on Wilson’s depth of knowledge to help pioneer many of today’s state-of-the-art, smart irrigation technologies which optimize even coverage, efficient energy, turf health, playable conditions and overall reliability.

“There’s nothing better than seeing golf course owners, operators and golfers enjoy high-quality outcomes from the Landscapes Unlimited team and our industry partners,” said Wilson. “I equally relish our incredible commitment to nothing short of excellence and the countless relationships in the home office and the field that endure well beyond installation of the last stick of pipe.”

“Roy continues to redefine the golf course landscape and golf course management,” said Bill Kubly, chairman of Landscapes Unlimited. “His precise planning approach toward irrigation system configuration and selection — as well as his work ethic, loyalty and pride — makes him one of the most appreciated and iconic professionals the golf development and construction business will ever experience.”

Wilson joined Landscapes Unlimited shortly after Kubly started the business with a few shovels and mounds of dirt in the back of his Keebler cookie truck in Nebraska.

“Roy could’ve bailed but stuck it out and helped develop our culture of doing things the right way that’s core to the Landscapes Unlimited value system,” said Kubly. “It’s hard to imagine the company and life without him; that’s why recognizing Roy’s friendship and contributions on his milestone anniversary and legacy is so important.”

Wilson is as equally bullish about his upcoming years at the Landscapes Unlimited irrigation helm: “Long live the imprint we make on the game and business we love.”
