Keith Evans, ASGCA fellow, dies at 76

Keith Evans, a fellow of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), died June 14, 2020, in Lansing, Mich., at age 76.

A U.S. Army veteran, Evans earned two degrees from Michigan State University in business administration and landscape architecture. After brief stints with the golf course design firms Joseph Finger & Associates and Richard Watson, Evans began working with Rees Jones Golf Course Design in 1979. He worked with ASGCA Past President Jones for the next 32 years, until his retirement in 2011.

Evans’ design work across North America includes Baker Hill Golf Club, Newbury, N.H.; Huntsville Golf Club, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Thousand Oaks Golf Club, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Rio Secco, Las Vegas; and London Hunt & Golf Club, London, Ontario, Canada.

Evans became an ASGCA member in 1980 and achieved fellow status in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; and daughters Jennifer and Jessica. Memorials may be made to the Gift of Hope for which he was a donor, Laingsburg (Michigan) Food Bank or the American Stroke Foundation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
