Jacobsen, a Textron Company, is doing its part to support education in the turfgrass industry.

The company recently awarded $500 scholarships to 18 college students enrolled in turfgrass management programs.

Candidates from across the United States and Canada submitted essays and professor recommendations for consideration. Students from 13 different schools–including the University of Kentucky, Oregon State University, the University of Connecticut, Pennsylvania State University and Kansas State University—made the cut.

“Receiving this scholarship is a tremendous honor and blessing for me and my family,” said Isaac Lawson, who is a student at Ozark Technical Community College. “Financially going to school and supporting a wife and two children can be very difficult. Jacobsen’s generous gift will really help with the financial burden attending college can bring.”

Since the 1980s, Jacobsen has hosted the Future Turf Managers’ program, an annual educational event for newly-graduated college seniors in several of the world’s top turfgrass programs.

The company also supports continuing turfgrass education through Jacobsen University, an in-house educational facility that provides hands-on training for turf students, superintendents, technicians and sales representatives.

In addition, Jacobsen donates equipment and resources to several turfgrass programs around the country, including The Ohio State University’s Turfgrass Science Program.

“These young men and women represent the future of our industry and it is critical that we support these students along the way,” said David Withers, President, Jacobsen. “Awarding scholarships is just one of the ways Jacobsen invests in the industry that has supported our company for so many years.”
