Hellas Sports Construction has been awarded its second contract with Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

In 2011, the company installed a new synthetic turf field at Elizabeth Dee Shaw Stewart Stadium, thanks to a generous donation from Robert and Annette Marquardt.

The latest project entails installation of 22,000 square feet of Matrix Turf for the expansion of the Weber County Ice Sheet, which was built in 1960 and used during the 2002 Winter Olympics.

A two-story addition that connects to the existing Ice Sheet building will include an ice sheet on the main level and a new multipurpose indoor synthetic turf practice field on the second level for use by Weber State University’s football, soccer, baseball and softball programs in the winter.

The turf area, which will be approximately 45×68 yards with a 30-foot-high ceiling, is scheduled for completion in October. The expansion will add 73,000 square feet to the building’s existing 57,000 square feet, reports the Standard-Examiner.

The school’s new indoor practice facility will be named for the Marquardts. According to the Standard-Examiner, their $1 million contribution paid for the installation of the turf field and the previous upgrades at Elizabeth Dee Shaw Stewart Stadium.
