Georgia GCSA names Lydell Mack, CGCS, Superintendent of the Year
The Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association (GGCSA) recently named Lydell Mack, CGCS, superintendent at Big Canoe Golf Club in Jasper, Ga., its Superintendent of the Year. Presented in partnership with Corbin Turf & Ornamental Supply, the GGCSA awarded Mack at the association’s annual awards banquet during a three-day event at The King & Prince Beach and Golf Resort on St. Simons Island, Ga.
Mack’s service began with the association’s assistant superintendent committee and progressed into board service, involving terms on multiple committees as a GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador.
In 2012, he received the association’s Assistant Superintendent of the Year award while at The River Club in Suwanee, Ga. That earned him a place at the board table as the assistant superintendent liaison in 2013. The following year, after moving to Big Canoe GC and his first super role, he was elected to the board in 2017.
Mack was recently promoted to director of operations for the 27-hole golf course and private community. Close to 240 members and allied golf industry leaders attended the awards banquet. The association returned Tim Busek, superintendent at St. Ives CC in Johns Creek, Ga., to a second term as president.
Members also elected three first-timers to the board of directors, including Brad DiMascio from Reynolds Lake Oconee, Greensboro, Ga., Scott Lambert from Atlanta CC, Marietta, Ga., and Garrett Tillman from Green Island CC, Columbus, Ga.
