We spent a little time watching golfers finish their rounds on Monday on No. 18. We caught up with Rickie Fowler and Matt Every as they walked off the course. Here’s what they had to say about the way the Straits Course was playing as of Monday mid-day:

Rickie Fowler:

“It’s in great shape, a little soft… they’ll dry it out as the week goes on, depending on the weather… it looks great, it’s going to be a great test this week. You’ll definitely have to be on top of your game.

The bunkers, it’s heavy sand, they’re still a little wet right now. They’re playing as hazards, you have to avoid the bunkers. Fairways and greens as much as possible is going to be key this week.

I do enjoy this course. I struggled here in 2010. Got to play the weekend but I didn’t have the week that I wanted. Got to see it this morning, I really enjoyed being out there and hit some good shots.

The course is in great shape. Stay out of the bunkers and rough, that’s the key this week. It’s going to be a great test. It’s going to be tough if you’re not on top of your game, but I feel like you can make some birdies if you’re driving the ball well and putting it in good position.”

Matt Every:

“It’s pretty soft out there but it’s the same for all the golfers out there so it’s not going to affect my play. This close to game time the tournament conditions are really more up to Mother Nature than anything. I don’t know how they can get it much firmer out there.”
