Stone Creek Golf Club is a Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy designed course in Oregon City, Ore. Old-growth Douglas firs, lakes, wetlands and Oregon’s highest mountain, Mt. Hood, decorate its 120 acres.

As 2013 is coming to a close, Stone Creek isn’t. The municipal course is open year-round. Although the fall weather was rainy, the winter season kicked off with a great October and November, according to Superintendent Mike Turley.

Turley is in his second year as the superintendent for Stone Creek and held the assistant superintendent position long before that. As for 2014 plans, they’re working on getting more tournament events for next year.

“We will also be doing par-3 tee renovations and lakeshore buffer zone maintenance – removing invasive plant materials and weeds,” said Turley.

The course is open in the front with slight elevation changes and very few bunkers, which is why Turley believes it is a great public golf course.

For the twelfth time, Stone Creek will round up its year with a New Year’s Eve Tip Bowl. It is a men’s club event and shotgun start where golfers play from the very back tips.

“It’s a great event,” said Turley. “We even shoot over adjacent tee boxes on some holes to make them longer, up to 7,000 yards, which makes it fun.”
