Course of the Week: Arizona Biltmore Golf Club to undergo renovation project

The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club, located in Phoenix, Ariz., began a multi-phase renovation and improvement project in early April. The investment by the club’s ownership group, JDM Partners, follows consultation with neighbors, community stakeholders, the city of Phoenix and industry experts.

According to JDM Partners, the goal of the renovation is to improve facilities and courses to ensure the preservation for the community and future generations.

“We sincerely appreciate the passion and nostalgia so many of our friends and neighbors have for this stunning oasis,” Jerry Colangelo, JDM principal partner, said.

Douglas Fredrikson Architects is the architecture firm working on the project alongside Sundt Constructions. Expected to finish in early 2023, phase one of the project will include a new golf shop, member facilities and underground cart storage. Once complete, parking at the club will expand and resort-style landscaping will be added.

The second phase of improvements will include a new clubhouse and restaurant. The single-story clubhouse and restaurant building will sit on a canvas of grass with water features and colorful landscaping. The club’s courses and existing clubhouse will remain open throughout phase one of construction.

There are plans to renovate and restore the club’s Adobe Course while preserving its parkland setting. The Adobe Course originally opened for play in 1929 and is a William Bell design. The renovation will infuse modern golf course design and water conservation technology. Tom Lehman, a five-time PGA Tour champion and 1996 Open Championship winner, is leading the golf course design team with work expected to commence in 2023.

“The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club’s first century was spectacular,” Colangelo said. “We’re excited about what is in store for the next 100 years.”
