Ewing Irrigation & Landscape Supply and Audubon International presented the inaugural Water & Sustainability Innovation Award to Corica Park South Course of Alameda, Calif., and its management firm, Greenway Golf.

The Water & Sustainability Innovation Award is a new opportunity created by Ewing and Audubon International to recognize organizations for sustainable, water-efficient projects.

“We developed the Water & Sustainability Innovation Award to bring focus to the increasingly prevalent water challenges we are facing,” said Warren Gorowitz, Ewing’s vice president of sustainability. “We know that many companies and organizations are already serving as leaders in sustainable practices throughout the country and we now have an award to honor their example and the work they are doing,”

Greenway Golf’s team used creative, multifaceted, cost-effective approaches to take a municipally owned golf course to the forefront of sustainable property management, according to Ewing. As a result, the property has significantly reduced its water use, improved stormwater management and reduced its energy use and carbon emissions. Additionally, the team introduced native plants and landscaping features to improve the habitat for many species of wildlife.

“I was excited to see the thorough and thoughtful approach to this renovation at Corica Park. Greenway Golf’s work is a terrific example of designing sustainability into a project from beginning to end,” said Christine Kane, CEO at Audubon International.
