It is investing $5.5 million to construct and equip a 120,000-sq.-ft. facility earmarked primarily for finished-goods storage, said CSI’s Director of Operations Chuck Sutton.

The company broke ground on the facility in July and expects to complete construction in February. About 20,000 sq. ft. of the project is earmarked for distribution offices and a staging area for shipments. The new building and driveways will comprise 4.5 acres, leaving CSI with about 3 acres for future growth.

“Like all of our investments, this expansion is designed to help us meet growing demand while better serving customers with enhanced warehousing and distribution control,” said CSI President Mark Boyd.

The expansion will help CSI accommodate steady sales growth across all segments served, including pest management, lawn and garden, and animal health solutions, said Curtis Clark, CSI’s VP of sales and marketing.

Clark said CSI recently launched more than a half dozen solutions for the professional pest management market alone and that each of these innovations requires additional warehousing and distribution space.

The new finished-goods storage center also will enable CSI to centralize warehousing and distribution of most of the Quali-Pro turf care product line acquired in 2011. CSI currently partners with 11 off-site contract warehouses but will be able to shift two-thirds of this to the Pasadena facility next spring.

“About 75% of our products are delivered to customers located within 1,000 miles of our Pasadena campus,” Sutton said. “Centralizing makes sense for all involved.”
