Storm leads to turf changes at New York park

When Hurricane Sandy struck the eastern United States in October, the devastation cost those in its path billions of dollars to repair. The wind and water damage has had a lasting impact on MCU Park, the Brooklyn, N.Y., ball field near the Coney Island boardwalk the Brooklyn Cyclones, a New York Mets affiliate, calls home.

That’s because the grass field has been replaced with artificial turf. Brooklyn Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen explained that the new turf is “designed to withstand severe weather.”
