Golf course superintendent Gord Witteveen has been tapped to be posthumously inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. The founding director of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association and longtime superintendent worked for more than 50 years at courses throughout Ontario and Quebec. He was also a respected author and speaker.

Born in the Netherlands, Witteveen (1934-2010) left his homeland for Canada at age 20. Inducted into the hall of fame’s building category, he is the 70th member of but just the second superintendent to be named to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

“Gord made significant contributions to the CGSA and to golf course management in Canada and around the world during the course of a remarkable career,” Executive Director of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association Ken Cousineau stated in a release. “His mentorship of countless young men and women left an indelible mark on the superintendent profession, ensuring the continuity of knowledgeable and capable golf management professionals for generations to come.”

Witteveen will be formally inducted into the hall in January 2013.
