STC meeting set for Dallas Oct. 2-4
By Rick Doyle
The Synthetic Turf Council’s (STC’s) Annual Membership Meeting, set for Oct. 2-4 in Dallas, is shaping up to be one of its most dynamic meetings in its nine-year history. Featuring new research, science and STC guidance, the theme of the conference is “New Science and Synthetic Turf Council ‘s Guidelines to Advance the Industry.” The keynote speaker is Daryl Johnston, Dallas Cowboys Fullback from 1989 to 1999, a two-time Pro Bowl participant, a member of three winning Super Bowl teams, and principal of an STC member company.
Benefits to each attendee include one-of-a-kind networking opportunities, unmatched education sessions, golf, and a tabletop Exhibitor Showcase (only members may exhibit). In addition, there will be more than 230 representatives from companies located all over the world and of all types in the synthetic turf industry, including manufacturers, suppliers, installers, landscape architects and engineers, testing labs, and maintenance equipment and service companies.
On the first day of the annual meeting, the Synthetic Turf Council will dedicate a synthetic turf playfield of almost 6,000 sq. ft. that it installed, through the generosity of its members, to SafeHaven of Tarrant County in the Dallas area. SafeHaven, through its shelters and other resources, seeks to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. Similar to the playfield the STC donated to the Stuart-Hobson Middle School in Washington last fall, these projects have become a meaningful and enduring expression of the STC’s gratitude to the host city of our Annual Membership Meetings.
Non-members are welcome to attend the meeting as a registered guest — or better yet, as a new member — and participate in this largest conference of its kind for leaders of the synthetic turf industry.STC hires Terrie Ward
On another STC note, Terrie Ward has joined the STC as its full-time marketing and education director. During her accomplished career, Terrie has served in various leadership roles in marketing, communications, public relations, and crisis management in the hotel and amusement park industries.
Terrie will be building on the work of Shira Miller, who has served the STC and the synthetic turf industry so admirably during the past five years. We look forward to having Shira with us in Dallas, where we will highlight Shira’s leadership of our Public Outreach & Education Campaign and the impact the Campaign has had since it was launched in October 2007.
