“A key feature that addresses the labor shortage is the TechControl display, which takes any operator and provides them with the tools needed to ensure a precise, high-quality cut every single time.”
Every golf course superintendent can rattle off a variety of challenges that keep them up at night, from destructive weather to tightening budgets. One common concern that continues to be top of mind? Labor. Quality employees are becoming harder to come by, and finding qualified workers can be difficult and expensive. While leaders in golf are banding together to attract new people to the industry, it is important for superintendents to maximize the labor they have available, and manufacturers, like John Deere, are rolling out new technology to provide a viable solution to this industry crisis.

John Deere did just that with their new 2700 and 2750 PrecisionCut and E-Cut Triplex Mowers. Boasting four powerful models, the new Triplex Mowers include the 2700 PrecisionCut and E-Cut Hybrid gas models, and the 2750 PrecisionCut and E-Cut hybrid diesel mowers. These machines are designed to offer consistent performance and cut quality, regardless of the operator. Across the industry, more superintendents are adopting triplex greens mowers, as they are productive, simple to operate and provide a superior cut.

“When developing our triplex mowers, customer needs were at the forefront of our minds,” notes Brad Aldridge, product manager, John Deere Golf. “A key feature that addresses the labor shortage is the TechControl display, which takes any operator and provides them with the tools needed to ensure a precise, high-quality cut every single time.”
Complete precision across operators
The passcode-protected TechControl display allows managers and technicians to input commands, controlling nearly everything regarding the operator’s performance. “With this proven system, managers and technicians no longer have to worry, as settings cannot be changed by the operator,” says Aldridge. “This allows for multiple machines and operators to be used with consistent performance. It is like the superintendent is mowing the greens.”
Understanding that uniformity is critical on a golf course, the Frequency of Clip control function allows the manager or technician to alter parameters on mowing speed, reel speed and number of blades on the reel. An industry exclusive on the hydraulic models, and available on the hybrid units, the Frequency of Clip feature ensures the end result is the same from machine to machine.
The exclusive Clean Up Pass Mode preset can be engaged by the operator to automatically reduce mowing speed on perimeter passes, increasing accuracy for less scalping or missed grass. “We wanted to make the task of mowing easier for the operator, especially for newer employees,” mentions Aldridge. “With Clean Up Pass Mode, the operator can focus on the task at hand, rather than feathering the speed.”

Mowing for time, money and labor savings
Adjustable turn speed controls how fast the operator is able to turn, minimizing scuffing. This is particularly important when working with newer operators, ensuring they are mowing at the right speed.
Budgets are another key concern for superintendents, and the TechControl system can also assist with this through the Eco Mode feature, which electronically controls the engine speed to conserve fuel. When Eco Mode is engaged, the engine RPM automatically adjusts based on the load, saving up to 30 percent on fuel.
The TechControl system directly tackles the labor challenge, allowing crews to be more productive and consistent, regardless of the operator. “Golf superintendents are facing many challenges, from tightening budgets to a smaller labor pool. Additionally, the expectations from golf club management means that there is limited room for error when maintaining courses,” says Aldridge. “The TechControl system lessens the load on crews. Operators are more productive, and the manager or technician is able to focus on other tasks instead of worrying about the operators or cut quality.”
A complete solution from a reliable source
From the premium cut quality to the open platform, the triplex machines are the ultimate mowing solution. Each machine, whether hybrid or hydraulic, offers the same key features that customers expect from a John Deere mower, and crews will be more productive, precise and efficient, on both fairways and greens.
