Quick Quiz: Grow-In

By |  October 4, 2012

Yaling Qian, professor of horticulture and landscape architecture at Colorado State University, looks for more than a simple yes/no on her exams. She wants the student to show some depth of thought.

Here is her one on-line quick quiz: Please describe key management practices that can be used to minimize soil erosion during turfgrass grow-in.

Be sure you come up with several different answers if you want to score well on this question. Among the points Qian looks for in a good answer are:

a) Light and frequent irrigation — water during daytimes, if possible;

b) Installation of silt fences;

c) Mulching (straw or poly-materials are acceptable); and

d) Establishing temporary grass cover (such as annual ryegrass).
