Monday morning at the U.S. Open
Presented by BASF
It’s already been a fun and productive morning here at the 2014 U.S. Open.
I had a 3:30 a.m. wake-up call (after getting to bed at midnight) and we were at the course by 4:15. Photos at that hour are tough for an amateur like me, but I got a couple good ones. I also saw a few familiar faces right away, including Jon Jennings (Shinnecock), Brian Thompson (BASF) and Gary Meyers (BASF), among others.
As you might imagine, picking up a media credential at 5 a.m. isn’t ever easy… but I used my ninja moves and was credentialed by 6 a.m. The sunlight was OK by then, but overcast skies did damper my pics.
Ran into both Chris Hartwiger and the big boss, Mike Davis, of the USGA. Also spotted Eric Johnson and Josh Lewis of Chambers Bay, and Dean Bennett and Jace Myers of Brunswick Community College.
Chatted briefly with Davis, thanking him for the USGA’s support of Golfdom (Golfdom has partnered with the USGA to promote their research for going on two years now.) I told him the course was looking great, and that I was rooting for them this week. “Don’t root for us, root for Mother Nature,” he laughed.
We’ll have a photo roundup posted later. For now I’m heading back out to see what’s happening with the crew.
