Golfdom’s Hot List: A Q&A with Sipcam Agro USA

Stephen Kimball, key account manager – turf and ornamental, Sipcam Agro USA
What makes your product a game changer for golf course maintenance?

Linchpin is a novel patented herbicide that delivers outstanding control of kyllinga, sedges and crabgrass — and 40-plus broadleaf weeds — across cool-season turf and bermudagrass. Its unmatched versatility is due to the fact that it is the only mesotrione-containing herbicide labeled for use on bermudagrass, making Linchpin a perfect fit for cool-season overseed programs. But Linchpin also successfully treats nimblewill and larger crabgrasses with the addition of 4 oz per acre of SlipStream herbicide (mesotrione), with the Linchpin program to gain greater control of difficult weeds, offering little to no bleaching or turf phytotoxicity.
How does your offering improve operational efficiency for golf course managers?
The foliar, plus residual control, leads to less seasonal applications and the corresponding time, labor and equipment use. The ability to support most cool-season grasses and bermudagrass simplifies management decisions and changing of products through each application cycle. Overall, Linchpin treats a large variety of difficult species that usually require additional products, which leads to reduced cost per acre and simplicity.
In what ways does your product contribute to cost savings in maintenance?
Fewer overall applications with 30 days of residual control reduces the number of applications needed per season. The spectrum of control reduces the need to add additional product to the mixture. Additionally, Linchpin is a water disbursable granule (WDG) contained in a 3.6-pound resealable container, which covers three acres, reducing the risk of product loss and allowing the user to carry any extra product over for future applications, opposed to a traditional bag that typically cannot be closed properly.
How does your solution enhance the overall player experience on the course?
Linchpin controls key weeds such as kyllinga, sedges, crabgrass and key broadleaves on fairways — which are more uniform and tight — roughs without clumpy weed batches and transition areas which are more playable. Aesthetics and playability are a large part of a quality golf experience; Linchpin works hard on some of the toughest weeds in turf.
What future trends does your product align with in the golf industry?
What makes Linchpin herbicide a true game changer for golf course maintenance is because it doesn’t just solve a weed problem — it changes the efficiency, predictability and profitability of golf course management. Linchpin helps reach the goals of every turf manager by positively impacting labor, budget, turf quality and beauty and player satisfaction — all at the same time.
