The Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) has awarded Jim Kirchdorfer its prestigious Rossi Award, designated for people who have contributed significantly to the game of golf and its continued growth and who inspire others.

Kirchdorfer is a GCBAA “founding member and a major contributor to the golf construction industry,” said GCBAA Executive Director Justin Apel in a release. “This award recognizes the level of his dedication to the industry and the sport, placing him along side prior Rossi Award recipients including Dr. James Beard, Robert Trent Jones, Gary Player, Brent Wadsworth and Doyle Jacklin.”

Kirchdorfer has been part of the golf industry for roughly 50 years. He served as GCBAA president from 1994-1996 and was instrumental in developing a professional certification program for golf course builders. He also cofounded Sticks for Kids, an organization that enables kids from all backgrounds to learn golf.

Kirchdorfer will receive his award at the GCBAA’s annual awards dinner Feb. 28 during the Golf Industry Show. The Rossi Award is named for Don A. Rossi, who served as executive director of the National Golf Foundation from 1970 to 1983 and executive director of the GCBAA from 1984 to 1990.
