Industry veteran Matt Taylor, CGCS, has been awarded the President’s Award for Lifetime Service by the Florida GCSA. Taylor, who has led golf course operations and facilities at Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples since 2000, is recognized for his enduring impact on golf course management across Florida.

Unlike previous years, Taylor’s nomination came directly from the Florida GCSA executive committee. Jennifer Bryan, executive director of Florida GCSA, said the leadership felt it was time to honor Taylor’s contributions without waiting for a local chapter nomination.

Taylor’s career includes leadership roles as past president of the Everglades GCSA, Florida GCSA and the Florida Turfgrass Association. His accolades include the Distinguished Service Award from Florida GCSA in 2010 and the Wreath of Grass, the highest recognition from the Florida Turfgrass Association, also in 2010.

A 1993 graduate of Lake City’s golf course management program, Taylor’s early experience included working under Tim Hiers, CGCS, at Collier’s Reserve Country Club and directing operations at Bonita Bay Club. His leadership at Royal Poinciana, a 36-hole private club, has contributed to the region’s reputation for high-quality course conditions.

Taylor’s recognition comes as Florida continues to lead the nation with more than 1,100 golf courses, according to the National Golf Foundation. His influence extends to mentoring emerging superintendents and advocating for sustainable turfgrass practices.
