Fallon having fun on cover of Golf Digest

By |  May 8, 2014

Jimmy Fallon is the newest celeb to grace the cover of Golf Digest this month. The magazine is sporting a new look along with the golfing comedian. This makeover seems to be another arrow shot right at a generation the golf industry has previously ignored.

The Millennials have been a group that live in a black hole during a lot of discussions about growing the game of golf. I’ve read and heard several talks about trying to get more women, children and minorities in the game, but what about the 20-somethings out there? That’s me. I’m a child of the 1990s and land in the middle of the Millennials. I’ve heard a lot of descriptions of my generation, many of them dubbing us mindless, tech-obsessed, couch potatoes. As always with generalizations, that’s not true of everyone.

But when it comes to golf, it has been observed by some in the industry that we are just not getting into the game. I’m sure there are many factors as to why, but that’s for another day.

On the positive side, we are growing up and entering a transitional phase. Soon we’ll be parents and settled down with families. One thing that has kind of met us in the middle is late night television. I had never watched the Tonight Show or any of the other talk shows prior to Jimmy Fallon’s recent move to sit behind the desk on late night T.V. Now, with him at the helm, I find myself watching this show as much as possible. So with that move in mind, it was great to see Fallon on the cover of Golf Digest.

Fallon is fun and he says he has fun playing golf. Following that train of thought, I could be led to think that I could have fun playing golf. I’m sure this is exactly what the magazine is hoping for by having the funny man on the cover and I hope it works.
